Mariam’s Library, is an educational resource center located in the remote village of Mwanyanya, Zanzibar, part of the firm’s Gives Program, represents a significant investment in both education and sustainability. The design of the library blends traditional Zanzibari architecture with a forward-thinking, eco-conscious approach. By prioritizing locally sourced and sustainable materials, the project not only respects the cultural heritage of the region but also minimizes its environmental footprint.
According to Parallel Studio, nature itself was treated as an integral part of the design team. The natural surroundings influenced design decisions, helping to keep the project on track with its sustainability goals. The result is a beautifully crafted space that serves both as a learning hub and as a symbol of the studio's dedication to fostering global social responsibility.
The opening of Mariam’s Library signals a hopeful future for the local community, providing access to much-needed educational resources in a setting that honors both culture and the environment. Parallel Studio’s effort exemplifies how architecture can act as a catalyst for positive change in underdeveloped regions.
